The award-winning Mississippi Mass Choir scores their second # 1 single on the Billboard Mediabase Gospel Airplay Charts with “Only One Way Home,” from their latest recording “We Still Believe.”
This prestigious milestone solidifies their place as a leading force in gospel music, even after 37 years.
It was penned by the choir’s Executive Director, Jerry Mannery, Benjamin Cone III and prolific producer and songwriter Stan Jones. In the words of Mannery, “It’s an unapologetic declaration that not only does Jesus know the way to the “House of many mansions,” but He is the Way.”
Stan Jones adds, “Only One Way Home” is an infectious, toe-tapping church groove that resonates across generations, that brings choir back to the stands, and maybe even back to the cleaners for those old robes.”
“Seeing this project come full circle has been an incredible journey,” said Benjamin. “The song’s message is something we all need to hear, but with its second-line style, even the secular world can embrace it.”
In addition to the choir’s signature harmonies and powerful vocal presence from Benjamin Cone III and Carol Watts, the track also features gospel legend Paul Porter. “One of my dreams,” says Porter, “was to sing with the Mississippi Mass Choir—and that dream came true.
The first # 1 single “The Promise” from the current release on Malaco Records, was recognized at the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards as one of the most performed songs of the past year across broadcast and streaming platforms and stands as a testament to an aggregation which has withstood the test of time and can go through the generations.
The Mississippi Mass Choir remains a pillar of gospel music after 37 years. The choir has garnered multiple accolades, including three Grammy-Award nominations, 12 Stellar Gospel Music Awards (including the prestigious Thomas A. Dorsey Notable Achievement Award), induction into the Mississippi Music Museum Hall of Fame, Billboard Gospel Artist of the Year, and a Soul Train Music Award, among many others.
