A plethora of entertainers, artists, and NBA stars poured into the city of Houston last weekend to take part of an action packed NBA Allstar weekend. PATH MEGAzine was there capturing the weeks leading events.
Merged into the busy schedule of events was the 8th Annual NBA Allstar Gospel Celebration that took place Saturday, February 16, 2013. Tomeka Holyfield, one of the fore-most red carpet producers in Gospel, made sure that Gospel was celebrated during the festive weekend.
This years honorees included Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas, NBA Star Tracy and CleRenda McGrady, Political Analyst Roland Martin, and five Houston-area pastors that included A Louis Patterson Jr., Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell, Pastor Rudy Rasmus, Pastor Terrance Johnson and Pastor Reginald DaVaughn Sr.
Co-Hosted by Pastor Paula White and Comedian D-Ellis the afternoons event paid tribute to NBA Players, NBA Coaches, Sports Figures and high profile individuals who effect change in the lives of others.
Holyfield also gathered an impressive line-up of singers that included James Fortune & FIYA, Israel Houghton, Alexis Spight, Brian Courtney Wilson among others.
Congress-woman Sheila Jackson Lee and Congressman Al Green were there to honor the visionary Tomeka Holyfield for her service and commitment to the community. Media on hand included PATH, Miss Mykie from BET’s 106 & Park, Fox news Channel 26, and The Belle Report among a dozen others. Holyfield was excited to bring the event back to Houston after hosting the very first NBA Allstar Gospel celebration here 8 years ago.“For the past 8 years we’ve brought Faith and Inspiration to NBA All-Star Weekend, the first and only Gospel event working in conjunction with NBA Entertainment,” exclaimed Tomeka B. Holyfield, Creator and Executive Producer of the All-Star Gospel Celebration. “It is an exciting time for the local community, NBA Players and their loved ones to take a moment and acknowledge the phenomenal nominee’s and the incredible work they’ve done in the community. So many times we are bombarded with negative images of professional athletes, and pastors, but we rarely hear about the individuals who are making a difference in people’s lives. This platform allows us to applaud them for their amazing compassion and dedication to people.”
PATH will feature many of the days top interviews in the upcoming weeks. Exclusives that include Gold medalist Gabby Douglas along with her mother and sister, Radio-One founder Cathy Hughes, CNNs Roland Martin among others.
