The NCGCC is the life’s work of Gospel music’s most prolific pioneer, Professor Thomas A. Dorsey. Known as the Father of Gospel Music, Dorsey was one of the first to effectively combine evangelical testimonies with hymnal melodies and idioms of blues and jazz tonality to form the soul-stirring musical concoction he coined as “Gospel music.” As a result of his numerous musical compositions, his founding of the NCGCC, training countless Gospel artists and choirs, and his tireless promotion of the genre, he is the person most singularly responsible for the world wide recognition of Gospel music.
Affectionately referred to as the “Dorsey Convention”, the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc. was incorporated in 1932 to expand America’s interest in what was then an emerging spiritual musical genre. Today, led by its President, Dr. Marabeth E. Gentry, and Rev. Dr. Derrick E. Roberts, Chairman of the Board. the NCGCC continues to celebrate a true American art form while fostering an appreciation of Gospel Music.
Attorney Thomas A. Dorsey III TADP founder, co-author of Living the Live I Sing, Gospel Music From the Dorsey Era to the Millennium, and Public Relations and Marketing Director of the NCGCC stated: “As a part of the many efforts to preserve and promote the legacy of my grandfather, I’m particularly elated to personally invite everyone to join the Dorsey Convention family for the 83rd annual session of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc.’s.
Throughout the week you will be blessed by words of inspiration and good news from dynamic clergy, trained in workshops designed to enhance the proficiency of both singers and musicians and inspired by performances by NCGCC’s own choral unions, church and community choirs from around the country and world renowned gospel artists Bishop Marvin Sapp, Pastor Beverly Crawford, Tasha Page-Lockhart and Jay & The Team, just to name a few. I look forward to seeing you there!”
