After much criticism of the way she handled the success of her Oscar winning portrayal in the movie ‘Precious,’ actor/comedian Monique is back on the big screen with her role in the movie ‘BlackBird.’
Monique plays an emotionally disturbed religious mother who can not except that her seventeen year old son is gay. The movie hits on Christian households learning to deal with sins the bible clearly condemns.
BlackBird has limited distribution in theaters, and it’s a far cry from the roles that an Oscar winning actress should be receiving. After famed director Lee Daniels (Precious, The Help) publicly voiced that Monique has been blackballed by Hollywood insiders for her refusal to promote films she’s acted in, Monique has seen her character called into question on a number of issues.
In a recent interview on the radio show ‘Sway in the Morning’ Monique attempted to clear her name by reading emails sent from Lee Daniels’ production company. The archives proved that Monique was first up for the role of ‘Cookie’ in the hit TV show ‘Empire.’ A fact that also previously painted Monique as a liar to the media.
