For the full scripture reference, read Genesis 19.
While you may never see a salt statue on a sidewalk, there are still people in the same condition of Lot’s wife. However, it is not their whole body; it is only their heart that has been calcified. But, tell me, what good is a body without a heart that does not function. In Matthew 6:21, the bible says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Lot’s wife found herself in a position where she did not value the future. There was no treasure for her in the mountains. Her treasure lay in her home in Sodom. It lay in her friends and the life that she built there. Her inability to see the value in tomorrow left her immobile. I know that we have been told if we do all the right things it will work out. However, if you do all the right things without the right reasons you won’t get the expected results.
You must learn to find value in your future. Every day there is someone somewhere who is faced with a difficult decision concerning God calling them to move forward. They find themselves having to leave relationships that they’ve invested time, energy and love into. There are people who have to leave jobs and careers. And, though they physically leave in obedience, their hearts are safely planted in the place that they’ve left. This makes for quite an issue. The new place that you are, now, in out of obedience will be something that you resent because your heart isn’t there. Your lack of heart or motivation will cause you not to properly function in the place that your obedience has led you. Motivation causes you to act. When there is hollow obedience, you will produce sufficient work that leaves you utterly unsatisfied.
There are people in sufficient marriages that are unsatisfied because of their hearts being calcified. Their spouse can’t penetrate that hard place. Their spouse feels neglected and unloved because they realize that the person they are married to does not value them like they do someone else. There are employers who are frustrated by their employees because they realize they are only doing enough to get by. There are relationships, businesses, churches, endeavors, organizations suffering because the people who are called to serve there suffer from a heart that doesn’t’ desire to be there.
People of God we have to start setting our affections back on the purpose of God for our lives. There may have been some things that you valued in your past but they were not things that God desired for you. Sometimes, they were things that God desired but the desire was seasonal. He just placed you there to learn a lesson not to settle in. However, when He calls you from that place you have got to move forward with your heart towards the author and finisher of your faith. It is not enough to simply obey, you must be willing too. In Isaiah 1:19, the bible says, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.” You won’t ever enjoy the fruits of your labor until you begin to shift your attitude about it. If God has called you to a place, you won’t ever be productive loathing it. You must find the value in His plan and do it with all that is in you. Then, and only then, will you find that you are flourishing in your purpose. The point where heart meets obedience is when joy and proper function are birthed. Stay on the Path.
