Prayer tops the chart, as Grammy nominated, singer/songwriter MAJOR. scores his first NO. 1 on Billboard charts with his single “I Prayed for You (Said a Prayer)”, jumping three spots to the top this week.
The chart-topping singe is co-authored with Brunes Charles and Jeshua “Tedy P” Williams. MAJOR.’s good friend and actor, the late Chadwick Boseman, also was a part of this powerful anthem being a source of inspiration and hope.
“PRAYER got me my first Billboard #1!”, says MAJOR. “There’s a whole lot going on in the world and our hope is challenged by the day. ‘I Prayed for You’ is my love letter to the ones I love and to the heart of creation. What people don’t know, is that my good friend Chadwick Boseman asked me to do him a favor 4 months before his passing, and from that favor, he inspired me to write this song… so hope ain’t ever canceled, we gon ‘be alright!”
His “I Prayed For You (said a prayer)” is MAJOR.’s first #1 hit song on Billboard charts. His hit single and first appearance in 2016, “Why I Love You,” hit No. 5, becoming his first of two top 10s. “Honest” reached No. 5 in 2018; and “Better With You” rose to No. 19 also in 2018. This is a major win as he is #1 on both Billboard charts and MediaBase in the same week.
MAJOR.’s career is filled with accolades, including nine NAACP Image Award nominations, GRAMMY® and Dove Award nominations, a 2025 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Award, The St. Jude Champion’s Spirit Award, The Berklee Gospel Music Hall of Fame Induction and platinum status for his hit “Why I Love You.”
Reaching the top of Billboard and Mediabase charts can prove an arduous feat for major artists and record labels of all genres. MAJOR. accomplished this #1 chart position as an independent artist giving his small, hand-picked marketing and promotions support team a poignant and powerful song to work that the world needs to hear.
