Next week, the late evangelist Billy Graham will join the ranks of 200 esteemed Americans commemorated with a statue at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

During an upcoming ceremony on Thursday at 11 a.m., Graham’s statue will be revealed. Notable attendees will include musician Michael W. Smith, House Speaker Mike Johnson of R-La., and other congressional representatives, as announced by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Crafted by an artist hailing from Graham’s birthplace of Charlotte, North Carolina, the bronze sculpture will tower at seven feet atop a pedestal. It will capture Graham in a gesture towards an open Bible, symbolizing his life’s dedication.
Engraved on the pedestal will be verses John 3:16 and John 14:6, while Graham will be recognized as a “Preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The initiative for the statue was set in motion by the North Carolina General Assembly, which unanimously honored Graham as the state’s “Favorite Son” in 2013. In 2015, then-Gov. Pat McCrory signed House Bill 540, initiating the creation of the Graham statue.
The bill’s text pays homage to Graham’s global impact, recognizing him as one of North Carolina’s most influential figures.
