On the heels of the success of his debut project “Pullin Me Through” which produced “No Other Name”, the title track “Pullin Me Through” and the worship anthem “My Everything”, the anticipated wait is over; Gospel recording artist Todd Dulaney releases new single “Simply Amazing” featuring Grammy Award Winner Michelle Williams.
Simply Amazing is a labor of love for Dulaney. What God has done for him through his musical journey and in his relationship with him is simply amazing. Charting in the top forties on all three gospel music charts, nominated for ‘New Artist of the Year’ for the 2012-27th Annual Stellar Awards can only be described in two words “Just God”.
Dulaney is currently in studio working on his second project. “This project clearly defines the sound of worship. This time around, I have embraced who God has called me to be, I AM a Worshipper. The last project, I was finding me and sharing my love for what God was doing in my life. This time He has shown Himself to me and he has taken over my life, so my heart is singing His praises. He IS AMAZING, says Dulaney”. Look for the full project in the fall of 2012.

On Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 7pm music education advocates will gather at The Rutledge in Nashville, TN for the 3rd Annual Maestro’s Benefit Concert in support of music education for Nashville youth. Headlining the concert will be 10-time Grammy award winners Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, and Claude McKnight also known as The 3 Tenors of TAKE 6. Joining TAKE 6 for the evening is Nashville’s soulful songstress and recent American Idol top 40 contestant, Jackie Wilson, and the impeccably talented Prentice Family Band, which has become a staple in the Nashville community with their highly acclaimed Prentice Family Christmas Show.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the continued work of the W.O. Smith Music School, which provides first-class music instruction to children from low-income families for the nominal cost of 50¢ per lesson. W.O. Smith faculty are comprised of community volunteers. Instruments and learning materials are loaned to the students at no additional expense.
This benefit concert is the brainchild of Nashville music phenom Melvin “Maestro” Lightford. At the age of 27, Maestro has made quite a name for himself. Known for his proficiency across multiple genres which include pop, R&B, country, gospel, classical, and jazz, this Nashville-bred producer, keyboardist, musical director, and music educator’s resume incorporates everything from working with Grammy Award winning artists such as Michael McDonald, Kirk Whalum, and Alexander O’Neal, to shaping the sound and careers of up and coming indie artists.
Maestro
Maestro is passionate about music education and credits his keen sense of discipline, artistry, creativity and work ethic to a strong music education that includes high school graduation from the famed Nashville School of the Arts, and a B.A. degree in Music Education from Nashville’s Belmont University. Maestro is an outspoken proponent of music education and through his company Lightworks Muzik, founded the annual benefit concert in 2009 as a means to bring the Nashville music community together in support of music education. Proceeds from ticket sales go towards institutions and programs that strive to strengthen and sustain music education for Nashville area youth.
The benefit concert has been a success since its inception and this year will be no different. For the 3rd Annual Maestro’s Benefit Concert, Maestro has secured an amazing line-up of some of his mega-talented music industry friends and peers:
This dynamic TAKE 6 tenor trio consists of multi-Grammy Award winners, Joey Kibble, Claude McKnight, and Mark Kibble. These talented gentlemen astound and delight audiences, showcasing individual and collective musical influences as diverse as Earth, Wind and Fire, Nat King Cole, the Doobie brothers, and many more. Audiences will be treated with an unforgettable experience and blown away by the soaring musical stylings of The 3 Tenors of TAKE 6!
“We cross paths with many talented musicians, but Maestro is one of few down to earth young men that show promise of character as well as talent. It is truly rare to encounter talent that isn’t entangled with corresponding pride, so Maestro’s humility towards his craft is most refreshing! TAKE 6 is honored to be a part of this legacy-building event,”states Joey Kibble of TAKE 6.
Maestro has pulled out all the stops to ensure this year’s event will be a huge success!
The evening will be an amazing night of music, fun, and entertainment in support of music education and the esteemed work of the W.O. Smith School of Music.
“We are delighted that the W.O. Smith Music School will be the beneficiary of Maestro’s concert. The incredible passion and musicianship that he possesses makes all of his performances truly memorable and we could not be happier that his efforts will provide help to so many low-income music students in our community. We are grateful for Maestro’s support,” says Jonah Rabinowitz, director of the W.O. Smith Music School.
The 3rd Annual Maestro’s Benefit Concert will take place on Sunday December 4, 2011 at 7pm at The Rutledge, located at 410 4th Avenue South, Nashville, TN.
Perhaps best known for penning the anthem “How He Loves,” John Mark McMillan is hailed for his concise, poetic and often “raw” lyrics.
“Raise your voice, chase away the ghosts.” So begins the title track from Economy. A natural progression and a departure, McMillan’s latest album has moved away from the themes of death and resurrection that clothed The Medicine to the interior psychology of a man trying to live in the uneasy valley between this world and the next.
“For me, the greatest days—the birth of a child, the success of a career—have always been coupled with the worst ones—the death of a loved one, a friend’s divorce,” McMillan explains. “It’s a tension we all live in.”
On Economy, that tension is electric. From the first drumbeat of album opener “Sheet of Night” to the post-rock cacophony that closes out “Seen a Darkness,” there is a palpable weight that permeates the entire project. Economy is the sound of glory and shame, murder and grace, darkness and daylight and all those spaces in between. And it shows up in the songs—in the delicate beauty of “Love You Swore,” in the rowdy drawl of “Daylight,” and the quiet solemnity of “Murdered Son.”
For those following the North Carolina-based songwriter’s steady rise as an artist, Economy will not disappoint. Lyrically and sonically, the album is far greater than the sum of its parts, served by McMillan’s band and producers Jeremy Griffith and Joel Khouri. The team has created a perfect accompaniment to McMillan’s searching, searing vision of a world that is “not as it should be.” But it’s not just a broken world that McMillan is singing about. With Economy, he’s pointing across the horizon to the hope of something much more than “broken hearts and counterfeit currency.”
McMillan has been touring the U.S. with the David Crowder Band including sold-out dates in New York, Seattle, Dallas, San Diego and Chicago. Tonight (Nov. 1), he performs at another sold-out concert in his hometown of Charlotte before heading to Atlanta on Nov. 5 and Orlando on Nov 11. In spring, he launches a 30-plus city Ruckus tour. Four Time Grammy award Winning Gospel Singer, KAREN CLARK-SHEARD, of The Clark Sisters and Gospel’s New Leading Man, EARNEST PUGH will share the stage to host the 9th Annual National Gospel Dance Showcase “Dance Saints, Dance! 2011” on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 7:00pm.
The showcase will be held at The Holy Ghost Headquarters, located at 858 N. Broad Street (Broad and Poplar) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Not only will Sheard and Pugh host the event, but they’re both performing a few of their fan-favorite smash hits. Also, special performance from national syndicated radio Host and Recording Artist LONNIE HUNTER featuring Structure
KHALIF M. TOWNES, President/CEO of Urban Roundup Group, LLC and Executive Producer of Dance Saints, Dance! is set to raise the bar in the Gospel Industry again by combining Gospel music with dance artistry. Dance Saints, Dance! will be an evening of high-spirited, foot-stomping, and inspirational praise. The event will showcase talents of dance ministries throughout the country. As a trained dance performer and enthusiast for gospel music, Mr. Townes envisioned a platform to fused both gospel music and liturgical dance by showcasing the talents and creativity of individuals and group performers under one roof.
“Within the sacred walls of many faith-based churches across denominational lines and throughout the world, on any given Sunday morning or week day service, one may find congregants lifting their voice in song and dancing. Giving praise to God for who He is and all that He has done in their lives,” says Townes. “This form of expression to show thankfulness, appreciation, love, and gratitude to our Creator is nothing new. Even in biblical times, people such as King David and others danced before the Lord because of His goodness and the loving, kindness that He continues to bestow upon mankind. And so, even now in this 21st century, we celebrate God’s faithfulness and love by assembling together and showcasing the talents he has given us.”
Last year, The 8th Annual Dance Saint’s Dance! Showcase was featured in Sister 2 Sister Magazine. Gospel Recording Artist, Tye Tribbett and Actress/Singer, D’Atra Hicks from Tyler Perry’s play, Madea’s Family Reunion hosted the event. The show opened with Comedian and Co-Host of the Yolanda Adams Morning Show, Marcus D. Wiley, followed by Gospel’s New Leading Man, Earnest Pugh performing selections from his chart-topping album, “Rain On Us”.
Previous guests to grace the Dance Saints, Dance stage includes Gospel Recording Artist and Entrepreneur, Vickie Winans, Radio One Praise 103.9 Radio Personality and Gospel Artist, Lonnie Hunter, Radio One Praise 103.9 Radio Personality, CeCe McGhee, Kevin D’Voice, Jamal Coleman and Recording Artist/Actress, Taral Hicks.
Dance Saints, Dance! continues to be one of the most anticipated and well attended gospel dance performances throughout the United States. For ticket information visit www.urbantix.com.
BMI will salute gospel leaders Kirk Franklin and Pastor Hezekiah Walker at its 13th annual Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon in Nashville.
The event is slated for Friday, January 13, the day before the 27th Annual Stellar Awards, at Rocketown (601 4th Avenue South). Gospel music’s premier songwriters, brightest stars, and leading executives attend the invitation-only event, which is part industry celebration, part awe-inspiring worship service.
Kirk Franklin is the best-selling contemporary gospel artist in SoundScan history. He was the first gospel artist to sell more than one million albums, and today, his sales tally exceeds 15 million. While Franklin has earned 20 no. 1 singles on gospel charts, he has transcended genre and medium in countless ways, from serving as host of BET’s Sunday Best, to consistently crossing over to urban radio. With multiple BMI songwriting awards, seven Grammys, 37 Stellar Awards, 14 Dove Awards, and six NAACP Image Awards, he is one of gospel’s most decorated creators. In addition to changing hearts and minds through his music, Franklin rolls up his sleeves for numerous charities, such as World Vision and the Children’s Defense Fund, for which he was an Ambassador. He’s showing no signs of slowing: Released this year, his 12th album Hello Fear and its lead single “I Smile” both topped charts.
Pastor Hezekiah Walker has led the Love Fellowship Choir, one of gospel music’s most influential groups, for more than two decades. The multiple Grammy winner has taken home 11 Stellar Awards, as well as numerous nominations for Dove, NAACP Image, and Soul Train honors. Through injecting traditional gospel and choir music with hip-hop and funk, Walker has crafted a distinct style that inspires and comforts young and old, black and white. He is also a soulful and persistently honest songwriter, capable of quiet introspection and airborne glory. Determined to carry the message even farther, Walker founded Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church and Hezekiah Walker Ministries, which serve not only as brick and mortar churches in New York and Pennsylvania, but resource centers for congregations all over the country as well. Walker’s acclaimed latest effort, Souled Out, is the thirteenth of his career.

This Sunday, a former gangsta rapper who served time for armed robbery will demonstrate that he is a completely new man by giving back to the community through his third annual event called Bless Fest. The activities will commence at 2pm on November 20 at 5800 Lyons Ave (Fiesta Food Mart), Houston, TX 77020.
Andre “007” Barnes, known for his music career as a member of Rap-A-Lot Records’ 5th Ward Boyz group, has partnered with Impact Ministries to offer an afternoon of food, music, and various “blessings.” Residents in some of the neediest parts of Houston can register to win one month’s paid rent/mortgage, one month’s paid light bill, one of 50 turkey baskets, $100 Toys-R-Us gift cards, and a laptop computer.
Over 300 people registered for the giveaways at last year’s Blessfest and Barnes expects over 500 to do so this time around. The day will also be filled with music performances from local gospel and Christian hip hop artists.
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” Barnes said. “Jesus met the needs of all who came in contact with him physically. So we don’t want to preach to you, we just want to bless you as God has blessed us.”
For Bless Fest 2011, Barnes has secured partners such as Fiesta, Blessings Christian Bookstore, TWEF, E EXCEL Health Care, Nacircle, P Gates Printing, The Lewis Family, Cricket Wireless, Street Life Worldwide, employees of The City of Houston, and Taking Back The Streets Ministries.
Andre “007” Barnes is a 5th Ward native whose story is a perfect example of how positive opportunities and role models can lead to dramatic life change.
In the mid-90’s 007 gained fame and notoriety as a founding member of the hard core gangsta rap crew the 5th Ward Boyz. Unlike many of today’s street rappers, 007 was never a “studio gangsta.” His lyrics reflected his actual life. That included a murder case for shooting and killing a man trying to steal his car (later ruled a justifiable homicide) and armed robbery as well as selling and abusing drugs.
Eventually greed consumed 007. After a European tour in the year 2000, he was caught robbing three banks and sentenced to more than four years in prison. Upon release he caught another case that earned him an additional 15 months behind bars.
It was there, in jail once again, that Andre Barnes had his “Road to Damascus” experience. Finally encountering and understanding the true grace of God through the sacrifice of His one and only son, Barnes began to change.
When he walked out of the yard this time around, it was with a renewed mind. Barnes pursued ministry, established Taking Back the Streets, and opened Blessings Christian Bookstore with his wife and family.
Now a new creature, 007 has returned to the mic with a much different message.
“I’m just trying to show young people that you don’t have to let street life consume and define you,” Barnes said.
The dynamic, angelic-voiced lead singer of platinum-selling pop group Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, releases her first solo album in five years, Hymns & Sacred Songs, today amidst widespread acclaim. The first of three new albums from Nash on Kingsway, these songs are a combination of fresh, newly written hymns alongside songs that have reverberated across generations, giving a voice to the faithful around the world. The timeless lyrics of hymns by Charles Wesley, Fanny Crosby and other writers of old, have been given fresh life with Nash singing and writing newly inspired melodies.
Produced by John Hartley (Rebecca St. James, Matt Redman, Stuart Townend), Hymns & Sacred Songs was recorded and mixed by Derri Daugherty (Jeremy Camp, Leeland, The Choir) who also produced Sixpence None the Richer’s Dawn of Grace (2008). With additional recording by Stephen Leiweke (Rita Springer, Chris Sligh, MIKESCHAIR) and mixing by Shane Wilson (Switchfoot, Newsboys, Passion), the album also features Stu G (Delirious?, Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith) on guitar, Paul Mabury (Hillsong, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brandon Heath) on drums, Matt Stanfield (Mandisa, Britt Nicole, Plumb) on keys and Chris Donahue on bass.
“I am so very thankful for the opportunity to sing these words and even get to infuse some of them with new melodies,” says Leigh Nash. “It is a gift above any I can presently think of, to sing to my God! The musicians, producer and engineers are all so gifted and the songs so rich in word and melody that my feet were dancing and my heart was constantly lifted throughout the recording of this record! I pray you will have the same symptoms!”
Leigh Nash has been performing since her high school days growing up in New Braunfels, TX. It was there that she met guitarist Matt Slocum and Sixpence came to fruition. Following four album releases, multiple Dove Awards, a GRAMMY nomination and the great success of their hit singles “Kiss Me,” “There She Goes” and “Breathe Your Name,” the band took a hiatus in 2004. Leigh took this time to release a solo record entitled Blue on Blue and a Christmas album Wishing For This, both in 2006, as well as collaborated with members of Delerium for the album, Fauxliage (2007). In 2008, Nash and Slocum reunited as Sixpence None the Richer to record Dawn of Grace, a holiday album fans had long requested. Last year, Leigh lent her voice on projects by Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Matthew West and others.

Legendary gospel singer and pastor of Toledo, Ohio’s New Bethel Church (COGIC), Dr. Rance Allen (The Rance Allen group), was installed as Bishop on November 7 to oversee 14 Michigan churches in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) denomination at the 6.5 million-member organization’s 104th Holy Convocation in St. Louis, MO. He will succeed the late Bishop Alfred D. Knight, Jr. as the Jurisdictional Prelate of the Michigan Northwestern Harvest Jurisdiction.
“I have literally been working in the church since the age of 5,” Allen told David Yonke of The Toledo Blade newspaper. “Singing and preaching, and now at 62, almost 63 in another week or two, I get elevated to the position of a bishop! I’m trying to figure out how I feel about it, because right now I still can’t believe it.”
Allen is also thrilled that the Rance Allen Group’s latest Top 10 CD “The Live Experience II: Celebrating 40 Years of Music and Ministry” (Tyscot Records), has been nominated for four Stellar Awards (Gospel music’s answer to the Grammy Awards) in the categories of Group Duo of the Year, Traditional Group/Duo of the Year, Traditional Male of the Year and Quartet of the Year.
“When I found that out, I was just elated!” Mr. Allen said. “I couldn’t believe we were nominated in four different categories.” The new radio single, “Holy One,” a praise and worship ballad, is currently making its way up the gospel radio airplay charts.
The Rance Allen Group was born in their grandfather’s Monroe, MI church in the 1960′s. They began recording for Stax Records in 1971 where they made a string of gritty, R&B-flavored gospel and message songs for the Gospel Truth imprint. They toured with the big R&B artists of the day such as Isaac Hayes and Barry White, and literally took the gospel to the world. From there, the group recorded for a variety of labels and scored their first #1 gospel album in 1991 with the “Phenomenon” CD that featured the crossover R&B smash, “Miracle Worker.” Allen closed out the 1990s performing in a variety of gospel-oriented touring play productions but the group signed with Tyscot Records in 2002 and kicked off a new string of hits such as “Do Your Will,” “Closest Friend,” “For Your Feet,” and the Kirk Franklin duet, “Something About The Name Jesus.”

Charisma News reports that just weeks after Paul Crouch, Jr. left the television network his parents pioneered 38 years ago, the mystery surrounding the “new opportunities” that enticed him is solved.
Crouch is joining The Word Network, the largest African American religious network in the U.S. Crouch gave up his position as vice president and chief of staff at TBN to serve as director of project development at the network.
“I look forward to working with Paul to help expand The Word Network throughout the Christian community,” says The Word Network CEO Kevin Adell. Crouch was not immediately available for comment.
Crouch will work to expand the network to the Christian community in California with live broadcasts and interviews with Christian leaders. Crouch’s new venture comes after the successful launch of iTBN, a new online service that aims to deliver TBN’s best programming—both past and present—to Web audiences all over the world. ITBN rolled out in September. Crouch resigned from TBN in October.
It is not clear why Crouch decided to take his talents to another network.
