Where’s God? – Editorial By: Calvin Walker
I recently have come out of a season where I wanted to toss the book. I had been doing all that I could possibly do, in my opinion, to improve my situation. Strangely, I classified my desire to make my situation better as my desire to seek God. I prayed and fasted and sang Shirley Caesar songs. I told my neighbor that it was a new season and turned around five times. In all of these things, I found that my situation did not improve. It was at that time when the Lord ministered to me. He let me know that what I was in need of was not funds it was focus. A lot of us find ourselves in a state where we are seeking a solution but not necessarily God. We seek these solutions via spiritual observations such as fasting and praying but our focus is off. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusts in thee.” The key to finding God in the midst of the clutter is shifting your sole focus back to Him.
There is a common lull in our relationships with God. Some people get so used to praying, fasting and provision that they only classify God as source. If something happens when source seemingly stops supplying we often want to give up. The clutter is not going away; the page is actually becoming fuller. In these seasons where it feels like God is nowhere to be found, I encourage you to go back and re-evaluate your relationship with God. This re-evaluation will give you the ability to shift your focus from Him simply being a source to Him being sovereign. Once this perception has shifted, you have shifted yourself back to a royal place, you are his Child! God has not left you! He still loves you! He has an expected end but you have to stay on the path!
