Denny’s Donates $100,000 to the NAACP

Spartanburg, SC – July 15, 2009 – Denny’s [NASDAQ:  DENN], America’s largest full-service family restaurant chain, announced it will present a $100,000 check in celebration of the company’s dedication to diversity on July 16, 2009 at the NAACP Convention in New York. Denny’s will serve as the lead sponsor of the NAACP’s youth achievement programs, which will impact nearly 50,000 young people throughout the country. The donation is a reflection of Denny’s continued support of the NAACP’s commitment to help government and business leaders understand how people working together can ensure social justice and build a great nation for everyone.

"It is our honor to support the valuable mission of the NAACP and their continuing efforts to raise broad awareness of the value of a truly inclusive society," said Nelson Marchioli, Denny’s CEO. "At Denny’s we are committed to education and helping individuals from diverse backgrounds achieve academic success during their educational pursuits. We believe that education represents the path to a better life for all people and for all communities."

To compliment Denny’s dedication to building strong families, promoting community service and advancing educational opportunities, and continue the company’s support of youth achievement and school partnerships, the sponsorship will support significant NAACP youth achievement programs. They include ACT-SO, the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, which inspires and encourages young people of African descent to pursue excellence in the arts, sciences, mathematics, humanities and entrepreneurship, and Back-to-School/Stay-in School, which provides students K-12 with academic and social support required to complete high school.

"Since its early days of transformation, Denny’s has become a model corporate citizen in advancing diversity and inclusiveness," said Dwight C. James, Executive Director of the NAACP’s South Carolina State Conference.  "Their commitment has aided our efforts to promote leadership and academic achievement for youth….across South Carolina."

Denny’s investment will help increase the impact of youth achievement programs by helping to promote and market the ACT-SO and Back to School/Stay in School programs in local markets and to assist in creating general awareness and recruitment of participants and volunteers.

"This generous donation will open up an array of opportunities to hundreds of young people," said Benjamin Todd Jealous, President and CEO of the NAACP.  "We appreciate Denny’s confidence in us, and in the youth who will make the most of this opportunity."

"Denny’s and the NAACP’s relationship historically and presently is an example of how out of crises even adversaries can build a partnership.  Denny’s is now a model company that is able to address problems proactively and react swiftly," added Reverend Nelson B. Rivers, III, Vice President of Stakeholder Relations, NAACP.

Denny’s also served as the sponsor and presenter at ACT-SO’s awards ceremony during the NAACP Convention at the New York Hilton Hotel on July 12, 2009. As part of the ACT-SO initiative, talented young people from a wide array of disciplines throughout the country compete in nearly 200 local competitions in a yearlong enrichment program. The program provides a forum through which African American youth demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific prowess and expertise, often gaining recognition reserved for entertainers and athletes.

TIMOTHY WRIGHT’S SON TAKES OVER NYC CHURCH

The son of late gospel singer Timothy Wright was installed as pastor of his late father’s New York City church during a service Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

David Wright, 30, became leader of the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ. He had previously served as the Brooklyn church’s music minister.

Family spokesman Will Bogle says several musical groups participated in the installation, a poignant celebration for a congregation that has grappled repeatedly with loss in the last year.

The Rev. Timothy Wright died in April, nine months after being injured in a car crash near Loganton, Pa. The crash killed his wife and grandson as they returned from a Detroit conference.

Wright was known as the Godfather of Gospel. He received a 1994 Grammy nomination for his album "Come Thou Almighty King."

Jamaal “Mali Music” Pollard to Release New CD: The 2econd Coming

Jamaal “Mali Music” Pollard is truth in music! The Savannah based singer, songwriter, producer is breaking out of the conventional gospel music.  Mali Music began playing piano at age 5 and wrote his first song at age 8 and has been actively pursuing his music ministry and career ever since adding acoustic guitar and electric bass to his instrumental proficiency.  Mali Music’s love for music is largely influenced by legendary artist Sam Cooke and Otis Redding.  Mali Music’s sound is heavily inspired by the work of music geniuses Bilal and D’Angelo…free, boundless and uninhibited.

Mali Music serves as Minister of Music at Faith on the Move Ministries and though he remains unrestricted as a musician and artist, his passion lies in creating powerful, effective Christian lifestyle music that crosses genres and seeps to the core of people.  “The Holy Ghost requires a certain atmosphere to move freely, and it’s all on how you present yourself that will determine if you will be received spiritually, lyrically, musically, or received at all”, Mali Music explains.  “That’s where I learned to set the atmosphere and be 100% transparent! People love honesty, and if we can relate…we can experience this thing together.”

Along with being a phenomenal singer and songwriter, Mali Music is an accomplished producer.  He has production and vocal credits on recent projects Gumbo Red (Dedicated Music Group) and Nayshon Shaka from label mate Laura Wilson.  Mali Music scored the soundtrack for the Savannah College of Art and Design film Linked and has scored two gospel stage plays, Urban Resurrection (2005) and Zion’s March (2006).  Consequently birthing his production company Mali Music Note Productions and 2008 marked the launch of his independent label SoundWalk Music Group, under the management of OvaFlo Entertainment.

The national release of his acclaimed debut album, The 2econd Coming, (Dedicated Music Group/Universal Music Christian Group) is not only anticipated, it’s being hailed as a landmark release in gospel music. The infinite boundaries The 2econd Coming presents throughout Contemporary Christian and Gospel music have the industry buzzing and consumers eager to get their hands on this eclectic masterpiece and experience the freedom in this young man’s music.

malicover“The Boldness of the Apostles, the faith of the prophets, and the undeniable truth of the Word of God, fuels me lyrically, and it’s what keeps me going”, voices Mali Music.  “Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, 40’s music, Big Band arrangements, and Pixar Film scores inspire my versatility and keep my mind open to the endless potential of what we call MUSIC."

Endless potential is what The 2econd Coming personifies.  Stretching the boundaries of Contemporary Christian, The 2econd Coming displays Mali’s extensive vocal and production versatility, and his God-given ability to reach any audience.  His bold, unique sound and gift for musical storytelling has captivated audiences, drawing them in to a lyrical adventure and spiritual revival.  The 2econd Coming includes the smash single and acoustic YouTube hit “Avayable” and the bold and unrelenting “I Hate You”, a lyrically clever, in-your-face illustration of the lies and darkness of evil and the rebuke and triumph we have over it.  “No Muzick”, is an expressive old Negro spiritual style song with a funky a cappella hand clapping flow that one can’t possibly remain still when listening.

Mali Music’s musical gift is evident and undeniable in The 2econd Coming.  Ever seeking to enhance his craft, Mali Music persistently studies, increasing his knowledge of music theory with a determination to build his musical repertoire as he constantly writes and experiments with diverse vocal styles. As his genius grows, Jamaal “Mali Music” Pollard is sure to unforgettably impact the world.

“When you’re born with a purpose…it’s really hard to deny it… It’s actually easier to just be who & what you are…and that’s exactly what I’m doin’.”- Mali Music

Promiscuous Girl

I was introduced to faith in God in 1983 through a schoolmate of mine. Long story short I had backsliden for 13 years. My sexual condition was worse than it first begun. I tried everything under the sun I mean everything. Today I am as I mentioned before a virgin in Christ eyes. I prayed to be celibate and so I am. Do I ever get tempted, certainly however my mind and body always take me back to all the people I allowed to touch me that I did not love at all. It was more or less a power trip for me as far as sex was concerned. I did not love any of these people. I got what I wanted which was pleasure and possessions. Although these things did not make me happy for many years I did them anyway because I did not want to face lonliness and the fact that I did not know who I was. Today, I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. God kept me alive in my stupidity so I can reach back and help someone else. I am humbly greatful.

Michael Jackson

Someone sent me your website and I was wanting to hear your comments on the death of Michael Jackson. I am sadden about his death, but don’t understand the comments made towards his father. If I lost my child, I would not even be in a place to talk let alone discuss some upcoming project; and to suggest that because he is a man about business excuses him from his outlandish behavior. First my concern is for Michael soul, did he acknowledge Jesus Christ as his Lord. Next as a church let us not make the mistake of justifying wrong. How can you justify Michael’s fathers statement; HIS SON HAS JUST DIED; he suffered with this his entire life. I listed to where has my childhood gone, or man in the mirror, this man was lost……As a parent, I would cover my child in prayer and not get so lost in the celebrity. My heart aches for this terrible tragedy and for his children who are left with their dad. I pray that they would be introduced to the Father among all fathers, that Jesus would make them complete. I am a Pastor, and the Word of God clearly states, woe to the shepherds that did not care for the flock; that means that we cannot justify wrong by covering it up by saying oh he is business man, and that is how he has always done it; and that he cannot change. I disagree, all things are possible with Jesus Christ. He can change your ways if only we would allow Him. Praise the Lord be blessed in Jesus Christ.
