New Children’s Book

Matthew and the Money Tree is unique, because in today's society money
and riches are overly coveted. This book teaches the moral lesson that
you do not need money to be happy

Matthew Lynch of Jackson, MS is a young man who has experienced a lot
of success over the past couple of years. He just published his first
book, his second book is about to be released, and started his own
company; all in a span of 14 months. In his second book, Matthew and
the Money Tree, he tackles the issues of poverty and greed.

While he was pursuing a Master's in Elementary Education at Jackson
State University, the majority of his class projects focused on
literacy, and more specifically children's literature. When he started
researching this genre of literature, he came to the conclusion that
there was a scarcity of quality children's literature for, and about
people of color. Most of the books that he found were not even written
by African American authors. Mr. Lynch wanted to create a children's
book based on an authentic African American folktale.

His thoughts immediately reverted back to his childhood. Growing up in
Hazlehurst, MS, there was a legend in the family about an old man and
a money tree. The old man who had worked his whole life as a field
laborer, but since he didn't have any family, he always had a surplus
of money. Some nights he could be seen walking through the woods,
always stopping at a certain tree. By the time he died, the old man
had amassed a small fortune, but no one, not even his friends, knew
exactly what happened to his money, so they theorized that he buried
it beneath the aforementioned tree.

Mr. Lynch was 7 years old when he first heard the story. His mind
immediately began to fantasize. He believed that this money tree
really existed and had money for leaves and coins for seeds. He would
leave home every morning looking for it, but never found the tree.
Although it was frustrating, it was a way to pass time and have fun
doing it. Matthew and the Money Tree is the first installment in a
series of children's books; based on Mr. Lynch's childhood
experiences. Be on the lookout for the next book about Matthew and his
adventures.

Matthew and the Money Tree is a wonderful tale for children and adults
alike. Matthew and the Money Tree is unique, because in today's
society money and riches are overly coveted. This book teaches the
moral lesson that you do not need money to be happy. Matthew is a
delightful character that gives children the idea that the simple
things in life are the true keys to happiness. A must have for
children of color.

We need an Injection of Spiritual Health and Fitness Back into this Country. Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters in view of God's mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1,2 As we approach the New Year let's take a different attitude towards how we look at Health and Fitness in this Country.

Did you know that over 60% of the Americans in this country are considered overweight and unfit and that over 50% of our children suffer from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and can not even pass the President's Physical Fitness Test. Black Men are nearly twice as likely to die from cancer as the general population, black babies are twice as likely as white babies to die before their first birthday. The rate of Aids among blacks is more than triple that among whites, and over sixty percent of African American women over the age of 40 are considered obese?

{pagebreak}

While the statistics in this country are staggering, it's up to each and every one of us individually to stop and make a change by renewing our minds and making spiritual health and fitness a part of the new you this year by walking as Christ walked, present our bodies as a living sacrifice and bodies of Christ, that is His pleasing and perfect will for us for the new year. Try to incorporate fitness into your Corporate and Family's daily agenda and start by thinking about being healthy and fit and then act upon those thoughts by starting slow with a short walk, jumping jack, push-ups, sit-ups, things that you can do right in the comfort of your home, and remember which ever direction this generation decides to take it's going to take the country with it!

About Beverly Crawford

Beverly Crawford first made a name for herself as a vocalist in the New Life Singers on Bobby Jones’ Gospel show on BET.

She made her performing debut at the age of three, singing at her father’s church.  A few years later, she joined her siblings in a group called the Camps Sisters. A battle with cancer drew her closer to her faith, and in 1989 she and husband Todd Crawford founded the Potter’s House Ministries. After appearing on recordings including the Bobby Jones Gospel’s “Bring It to Jesus” and the Music City Mass Choir’s “We Need to Hear It From You,” Crawford made her Warner Bros. label solo debut with 1995’s Jesus, Precious King; Now That I’m Here followed in 1998 which includes the hit title song and “Just As Soon (I’ll Be Shouting).”

Beverly began a solo career in 1995.  Her sophomore album, Now That I’m Here was nominated for a Grammy in 1999. In 2001, Crawford released a studio album (except for 1 live song) entitled Beverly on Dexterity Records (the label of the prominent minister Bishop T.D. Jakes) and in 2003 returned to the live church setting with Live Family and Friends which includes “Higher in the Lord,” “Hold On” and featured guest such as Bobby Jones, Shirley Murdock, Melvin Williams of the Williams Brothers, and her daughter Latrina Crawford.

After a four-year hiatus from recording, Beverly returned to the scene with a new project, Beverly Crawford: Live in Los Angeles (2007).  The first single released, and “He’s Done Enough” which quickly climbed up the Billboard charts and remained in the top 10 on the Single: Hot Gospel Songs Chart.

Now Crawford is back with new album “Beverly Crawford Live From Los Angeles Volume 2.”  The single off this album is “It’s Time for a Miracle.”

Sheila Jackson Lee Speaks on Gospel Music Heritage Month

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was an influential advocate for getting Congress and the Senate to pass a law recognizing September as Gospel Music Heritage Month.  Listen to various Gospel artists express what this month means for the legacy of Gospel music.  Also enjoy a tribute to legends now passed on to glory.

RESOLUTION

“Designating September 2010 as ‘‘Gospel Music Heritage Month’’ and honoring gospel music for its valuable contributions to the culture of the United States.

“Whereas gospel music is a beloved art form of the United States;

“Whereas gospel music is a cornerstone of the musical traditions of the United States and has spread beyond origins in African-American spirituals to achieve popular cultural and historical relevance;

“Whereas gospel music has spread beyond geographic origins in the United States to touch audiences around the world; and

“Whereas gospel music is a testament to the universal appeal of a historical art form of the United States that both inspires and entertains across racial, ethnic, religious, and geographical boundaries:

“Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Senate—

“(1) designates September 2010 as ‘‘Gospel Music Heritage Month’’; and

“(2) recognizes the valuable contributions to the culture of the United States derived from the rich heritage of gospel music and gospel music artists.”

The legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).

A look Back at James Hall…

The leader of the gospel choir Worship and Praise, James Hall debuted in 1995 with God Is in Control; King of Glory appeared that same year, and in 1997 he returned with According to James Hall, Chapter 3. On March 24, 1998, Worship & Praise made history as the first gospel choir ever to record live at New York’s renowned Lincoln Center; the resulting performance was issued on CD that summer, followed later that same year by Messiah. We Celebrate Christmas with James Hall appeared in 1999. We Are At War followed in spring 2001.  One of my favorite albums came in 2007 and 2009 with Live at Foxwoods and “Won’t it be Wonderful.”
