Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed (Empowered to prosper) is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law (Word) of the Lord; and in his law (Word) does he meditate day and night.“
Counsel is advice, direction, and guidance i.e. wisdom, so to receive counsel from the ungodly is to walk (be directed in the path; make progress from one point to another) according to his ways/heart. That’s why counsel is so important, throughout Israel’s history we can read where counsel either delivered them or defeated them.
Standing means to be grounded, positioned, secured, and to sit denotes a place or position of comfort and rest with the scornful (mockers, accusers, agitators). This the blessed man does not do. He has chosen to feed only upon God, get his counsel from God, his position and direction from God for his delight is God. He does not stand in the sinners path at all because he’s decided not to substitute false peace for true peace.
The blessed man has been planted by God and is sustained securely and nourished by God. The blessed man grows and becomes firmly rooted and grounded in God’s garden, why? Because God is his diet. Be careful with whom you associate and seek advice and counsel from for whoever supplies your needs also is in position to sustain and govern you.
To feed means to consume, digest, and ingest. We should be able to chew the meat and spit out the bone…hearing is not heeding!
Remember: sinful behavior ALWAYS starts with being around it (association) but compromise ALWAYS evolves into becoming one with it (assimilation).
God bless~
