Iranian Christian Fears Death if Deported from Sweden

Iranian Christian Fears Death if Deported from SwedenAn Iranian Christian seeking asylum in Sweden faces deportation after officials rejected his request.

Swedish officials could decide to send Reza Jebbari back to Iran as soon as this week.

Jebbari converted to Christianity while visiting Azerbaijan in 2010 and later moved to Sweden where he applied for asylum on grounds that he would face persecution if he returned to Iran.

Swedish authorities rejected Reza’s request. They questioned his conversion and said they’re not convinced he faces danger back in Iran.

His pastor told CBN News Reza “has a deep Christian identity” and actively participates in street evangelism and church activities.

Religious freedom advocates report Christians who convert from Islam are imprisoned and could be put to death.

In a case that gained international attention earlier this year, Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani was released after three years in jail and narrowly escaped a death sentence.
