Sherwin Gardner, the veteran Caribbean artist who’s been churning out Afrobeats from the land of flying fish for the last couple of years, has dropped an inspiring new track, “Mama.” The song is a shoutout to mothers everywhere. “Mama, we salute you, we celebrate you, this is your day, so we’re here to say, we love you, Mama,” he sings.
The instantly catchy “Mama” (FlowMasters / Tyscot / ADA) is a mid-tempo Afrobeat with a touch of dancehall. This warm, soulful anthem merits mention alongside gems like The Intruders’ “I’ll Always Love My Mama,” Meghan Trainor’s “Mom,” and Boyz II Men’s “A Song for Mama.” Gardner’s passionate tenor hammers home the unconditional message of love atop a percussive instrumental backdrop and dreamy atmospherics.
Gardner started the year off with a whirlwind of popularity for “Find Me Here (Blessings Find Me)” that has surpassed a billion TikTok views since its January release and amassed over 12 million digital streams. The affirmative track has received social media plugs from the likes of singers Alicia Keys and Yolanda Adams, actor Kel Mitchell, influencer Tabitha Brown, rapper EVE, and New Jack Swing producer, Teddy Riley. The anthem has charted on five different Billboard Magazine charts, including the World Digital Songs chart where it peaked at No. 7 in February.
