Fred Hammond’s New Group ‘United Tenors’ Suffer Major Setback, as Brian Courtney Wilson’s Label Says No

Fred Hammond’s orchestrated new group the ‘United Tenors’ suffered a major set-back in production this week.

PATH previously announced earlier this month that a super-group was being formed uniting Fred Hammond, Dave Hollister, Brian Courtney Wilson, and Eric Roberson.  Recording on the new album is going forward, but without Brian Courtney Wilson.

Wison’s label Music World Gospel has put a halt to plans that would have added a unique dynamic to Gospel music.

It is unknown why the label has denied Brian the ability to record the project scheduled for release sometime in March of 2013.

Fred Hammond announces the news via his Social Cam, with a devastated Dave Hollister visibly hurt by the recent turn of events.

In the earlier announcement this month we knew that details of the collaboration still had to be worked out with their respected labels, but that hadn’t stopped the four of them from rapidly recording tracks.

[Left to Right] Fred Hammond, Dave Hollister, Brian Courtney Wilson

Brian Courtney Wilson spoke with PATH publisher Kris Patrick first about the news, from the studio and home of Fred Hammond as they listened to the first mixes of the album.

“I am extremely grateful to be working with Fred Hammond and the team he has conceived.  We are all excited to be working together and even more excited for you to hear what we think will be an important contribution to Kingdom music.”  Brian goes on to say “That God will be pleased.”

The news leaves the United Tenors with 3 in the group now, and Fred Hammond made it clear that they’re moving forward with recording.  They hope to wrap up production on the album by Christmas.

Currently, Dave Hollister is Pastoring at Word Assembly Family of Churches in California.  Brian Courtney Wilson is coming off his sophomore album, and Eric Roberson hopes to broaden his fan-base by joining the group.

Brian Courtney Wilson continues to feel the squeeze of diminished radio play on FM stations due to the on-going dispute between his label owner Matthew Knowles, and Radio One founder Cathy Hughes.

Lets pray that Brian’s ministry will go forth, and reach the multitudes.

Gospel Recording Artist & TBN Favorite Javen Releases New Single, “Worshiper In Me”, From Forthcoming Live Project, Worship In T

Many know Javen as a ground-breaking, dynamic CCM artist.  Chart-topping singles like “None Like You” and “Change” made him a favorite with Contemporary Christian listeners.  Seen frequently on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, Javen is recognized as a singer, songwriter, producer, actor and speaker.  Few know that the Los Angeles-based singer has a passion for Gospel music, specifically praise and worship.  It was in his role as the former Worship Leader at Paula White’s Without Walls International in Tampa, FL, years ago, that he gained an understanding of worship.  “I believe those of us in the black church have church down to a science,” shares Javen.  “We know how to pray and we have some of the best preachers, and we also know how to praise.  As a culture, you can’t out shout us or out dance us, but worship is something I believe many of our churches are missing.  My goal is to bring worship to the forefront.”

The artist is shining a light on worship with the release of his brand new single, “Worshiper In Me”.  Penned by Javen and Stellar Award Winner Jonathan Nelson, the track is simply a beautiful love song to God.  Showcasing a different sound for the artist, the song is the first track released from his forthcoming live CD entitled Worship In The Now.  The live praise and worship record features the vocals of Jonathan Nelson on the lead single and appearances from guest artists Damita Haddon, who sings on “Lift Me Up”, and Marvin Winans, Jr., who lends his vocals on “Raise The Cross”.  The CD is set to release early 2013.

This live CD also gave birth to the Worship In The Now Series, a 3-day life-changing conference filled with a star studded line up of special guest artists.  The upcoming Worship In The Now Conference will be held November 7 – 9, 2012 in Tampa, Florida.  The event features teachings by great speakers, leaders, and pastors on successful living, spiritual growth, and more.  Tapping the crème of the crop, Javen’s conference features guest facilitators including hosting Pastor of CityLife Church Tony Stewart, TBN’s Matt & Laurie Crouch, pastor to the stars Tim Storey, former NFL Player Terrell Fletcher, visionary leader Toure Roberts, GRAMMY Award-nominated artists DeLeon Sheffield and Marvin Winans, Jr., and recording artists Kaci Stewart, Damita Haddon, Jacob Poole, LaRue Howard and KJ Scriven.  The conference will close out with a spirit-filled concert.

Not just focusing on the spirit, but on the body as well, the conference will host a food drive on that Friday night to assist the needy.  JCM Inc., a non-profit started by Javen that helps to stamp out homelessness, hunger, and poverty and Somebody Cares Tampa Bay, a local organization that aids disadvantaged children and provides food for those suffering with hunger, are partnering to provide assistance to those in need in the Tampa Bay area at the Worship In The Now Conference.  More information can be found at www.worshipinthenow.com.

Born Javen Campbell, this gifted singer is the son of a preacher and one of thirteen siblings. Growing up in Hollywood, FL, he burst on the CCM music scene initially as a member of the group Harvest which opened up for artists such as Amy Grant and Michael English.  With his Crowne/WORD Records debut, he launched his solo career and later released hit singles like, “Fresh Oil,” “Keeping the Faith,” and more.  After relocating to the bright lights of Hollywood, CA Javen began pursuing his acting career, which included movie roles in films such as “One Night with the King,” “Preachers Kid,” “Abandoned,” and more. With over four different independent projects Javen became a two-time Marlin Award Winner and an En Sound Music Award Winner for Best Urban Soul Album of the Year.  He is also a speaker and frequent guest soloist appearing on many networks including BET, TBN, FOX, NBC, GMC, and more.  Adding author to his burgeoning list of titles, Javen will be releasing a new book, “100 Things You Need To Know In Life” in 2013.  More information on Javen can be found at www.javenonline.com.

Denzel Washington leads list of actors fans want to play Jesus Christ

In a new online poll, Vanity Fair and 60 minutes posed the question “if you were directing a new film version of the New Testament, which actor would you cast to play Jesus?” Denzel Washington was the winner with 21 percent of people preferring him to take on the role of Jesus Christ on the big screen.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Al Pacino, Ryan Gosling, Woody Allen and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were also amongst the list of actors included in the survey. Actor Jim Cavizel starred as Jesus Christ in The Passion of the Christ in 2004, which was the last major box office film to depict Jesus Christ.

Washington, a devout Christian may welcome the roll, but it wouldn’t come without its share of risks.  Actor Jim Cavizel said playing Jesus in Passion of the Christ ruined his ability to get work in Hollywood.

If Washington were to take on the role of Jesus, it would not be the first time he has starred as a character with religious or spiritual undertones.

In 1996 Washington appeared as an angel alongside Whitney Houston in The Preacher’s Wife. And in 2010 the Academy Award winning actor starred in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi hit The Book of Eli, where he fought to protect a King James Version of the Bible, which was portrayed as a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

In 2006 Washington lent his voice to the Audio Bible CD ‘The Bible Experience,’ narrating the Song of Songs chapter.

Washington’s American Gangster co-star Russell Crowe will play Noah in the biblical epic film of the same name, which is currently in production and will hit theaters sometime in 2014.

Currently, Denzel Washington is set to debut his new film ‘Flight’ in theaters this Friday.

Chris Brown Speaks About Humble Beginnings in Church; Experience With Holy Ghost

Chris Brown recently revealed that his road to stardom began with a childhood singing in church and outlined some defining moments in his career on “This is How I Made It.”

Brown, 23-year-old singer, recently appeared on MTV’s “This is How I Made It” program where he opened up about his humble beginnings in a church where he grew up in Tappahannock, Va.

“It was difficult growing up. We didn’t have everything we wanted,” Brown revealed on the episode that aired Saturday. “We were used to two pairs of shoes for a school year. We used to go to church every day. I was one of those kids that had more church clothes than school clothes.”

The Grammy Award-winning R&B star said church taught him a lot about music and he spoke about the place of worship becoming a form of discipline for him as a child.

“Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we had choir rehearsal and the band, the whole nine. So being able to get that music lesson was also a blessing in itself,” Brown said. “It was also a discipline. I think my mom knew what she was doing like, ‘OK I’m going to keep you out the streets and put you in the church first.'”

The singer-songwriter and dancer recalled one incident where he experienced the holy ghost while performing “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” in church.

“The first time I performed, wow I was in church. I was about nine or 10…I finally got a chance to perform it and it was emotional,” Brown recalled. “I started crying for no reason and my mother was like ‘that’s the holy ghost baby.'”

According to Brown, seeing his mother’s happiness while she watched her son perform made him realize that he wanted to pursue a singing career.

“Seeing my mom happy is an overwhelming feeling and I was like wow I really want to do this,” he said.

Although Brown has received many accolades in his career, he spoke briefly about an incident that changed his life and the outlook that many fans had on him — the night where he engaged in a physical altercation with singer Rihanna. However, the singer said the incident was one of his most humbling experiences that just may cement his legacy.

“Having to get personal opinion back and having to gain personal success back, you know, it’s not all the way back you know. But it’s one of my most humbling experiences,” he said on the MTV show. “My story or my life or my legacy can hopefully show them that once you’re down, that don’t just mean you’re down forever. You never let up.”

New Artist & “Speechless” Singer Anita Wilson Nets Three 2013 Stellar Award Nominations

Anita Wilson has had a whirlwind year.  With the release of her EMI Gospel debut project, Worship Soul, the gifted singer has hardly been able to catch her breath.  The lead single from the release, “Speechless”, captivated the hearts of radio listeners nationwide propelling the song to the Top Ten on the Billboard charts.  The first single was followed by a riveting and contemporary rendition of a Rev. James Cleveland remake, “Jesus Will”, a song also soaring up the charts.

Now the singer has been nominated for three 2013 Stellar Awards.  The most coveted award in gospel music, Anita received nominations for Contemporary Female of the Year, Praise & Worship CD of the Year (for Worship Soul) and Urban Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year (for “Speechless”).

The artist’s first award nominations leave the singer, well, almost speechless.  She says, “I am so humbled to be a new artist nominated for Stellar Awards among so many amazing artists including my mentor Donald Lawrence.”  The 28th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN.

The blessings keep flowing for the soulful singer as she has been tapped for to open for the GRAMMY Award Winning Duo Mary Mary.  Anita will be joining the sisters on their 2012 Go Get It Tour in Merrillville, IN on Saturday, November 10th and in Rochester, NY, on Sunday, November 11th.  “I’m a long time fan and supporter of Mary Mary so to have the privilege to be included on this tour is overwhelming!” says Wilson.  “I would have never imagined such an incredible opportunity but I’m so humbled and grateful!” Tickets for the dates can be purchased at www.mary-mary.com.

Many are familiar with Anita’s memorable vocals as a member of Donald Lawrence’s Company, specifically on the song, “Happy Being Me” from The Law of Confession CD. Prior to breaking out as a solo artist, her inimitable style put her in high demand as a background singer for gospel greats such as Hezekiah Walker, Marvin Sapp, DeWayne Woods and Vanessa Bell Armstrong.

Growing up in East St. Louis, the songstress began singing at the age of five.  A “PK”, preacher’s kid, Anita practically grew up between the pews of her father’s church.  As she developed her singing style, she merged gospel with jazz and R&B influences from artists such as Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.  Taking the passion of worship and mixing it with a heart of soul, Anita Wilson has created a style all her own.  For more information about Anita Wilson, log on to www.msanitawilson.com.

Christian Rock Band PILLAR to Reunite – Founding Members Reunite for New Album to be Released Summer of 2013

Pillar, one of the most successful Christian Rock bands of all time announced on their social media pages and in e-mail to their fans this weekend that they will be reforming their marquee line up to record their first album in four years, and first for next level record label idefi Music.

“We’re going to be doing a record and are shooting for a summer 2013 release” says Pillar singer Rob Beckley. “It’s going to have that gritty sound but will come from a more mature place lyrically.”

Considered by many to be the band’s definitive line up, founding members Beckley, and Michael “Kalel” Wittig, were joined by virtuoso guitarist Noah Henson for the 2002 release “Fireproof.” The album immediately topped the charts and in the course of selling over 300,000 copies, won two Dove Awards and established the band at the vanguard of Christian Rock. During touring for the album Lester Estelle Jr., a much respected drummer joined the band cementing one of the most musically solid bands of the era. The effort spawned several hit singles including the title track and the band’s signature song “Fireproof.”

In 2004, the band again topped the charts with the release of “Where Do We Go From Here”. The album immediately shot to number one and included the singles “Bring Me Down” and “Frontline.”

“What was cool about ‘Fireproof’ and ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ was we were young and touring….those were pretty authentic records,” Beckley says.

The band’s next full length “The Reckoning” not only furthered the band success but added a Grammy nod for “Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album.” Their follow-up “For Love of the Game” brought more Dove nominations and hit singles but would be the end of the band’s most successful line-up as Estelle and Wittig departed.

Beckley says the band is very excited to be back together again.  He says that he’s very thankful for Pillar’s fan base. “We’re going to rally the troops so to speak…what made Pillar successful was not the music but the fans. The Underground Army has been in hiatus for a while and now it’s time to re-enlist,” he says. “One thing we know is that our fans were the driving force behind what we did. We’re really relying on them to support and get the word out about the new record.”

As to idefi, Beckley says he’s happy to be part of a groundbreaking business model. A thought echoed by idefi CEO Brady Deaton. “I am so proud to think that the idefi model gave them another option, one that included staying together and continuing to make great music while getting paid royalties on their music sales from day 1!”
