BREAKING NEWS: Sunday Best Finalist Dontavies Boatwright Passes Away at 33


Dontavies-Boatwright_GloryToGlory-itunesSunday Best Season two finalist Dontavies Boatwright passed away today.

Boatwright, 33, died of a heart attack this morning. He collapsed after complaining of chest pains, and paramedics were unable to revive him.

The news comes as a shock to fans and the Gospel community, as a young Dontavies was preparing for the release of his new album scheduled to hit stores in the fall of 2013. Continue reading



This Weeks Billboard Top 10 Gospel CDs: Bishop Rudolph McKissick Jr. Gains 17 Spots Coming in at #2


This week Tamela Mann spends her 12th week on the charts.  Half of that time she has spent it at #1.  That continues this week as Mann’s album ‘Best Days’ continues to sit alone on top the charts.

A surprise gainer this week is Bishop Rudolph McKissick Jr. who moves from the #19 spot on the charts from just a week ago, to the #2 postion.  McKissick’s CD ‘Recovery’ was released two weeks ago. Continue reading



Rapper THE GAME Portrays JESUS as Gang Member on Album Cover


The cover art for rap artist Jayceon “Game” Taylor’s upcoming album is stirring up controversy because it portrays Jesus Christ as a gang member.

The artwork for the upcoming “Jesus Piece” album shows a stained-glass image of Jesus Christ, who is wearing a gaudy gold chain and a red bandana – often associated with the Bloods street gang.  The depicted Jesus has a teardrop tattoo on his face – often a sign that the person wearing this tear drop has committed a murder.  The album’s title is written as “Je5us Piece,” with the number five also being a symbol of the Bloods, and there are marijuana leaves on both sides of Jesus’s likeness. Propaganda Makes ‘Excellent’ Billboard Debut, Moves Over 27,000 Units In First Week of Album Release


 Humble Beast Records is celebrating the successful debut of Propaganda’s new album, “Excellent,” which released to digital retailers on September 25th, peaking at #4 on iTunes’s Hip-Hop chart and making a significant chart impact at Billboard.

“Excellent” debuted at #184 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart with nearly 3,000 albums sold. While an impressive statistic on it’s own, it’s even more notable when considering that more than 24,500 additional copies of the album were downloaded during the first week of release from the label’s own website, HumbleBeast.com, where fans were given the opportunity to pick up the album for free.
