CHONDA PIERCE: APRIL “BUCKET LIST” BRINGS GMA DOVE AWARDS CO-HOSTING & HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW COMEDY DVD

Armed with an abundance of unpretentious Southern charm and laser sharp wit, Chonda Pierce is packed and headed for co-hosting chores on the 43rd Annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards to be telecast nationally on April 24 at 8:00 PM on GMC-TV.

Dubbed the “Queen of Clean Comedy” Chonda is thrilled with the opportunity to check-off yet another important box on her ever growing list of career “to do’s.”

“I’ve had hosting the Dove Awards on my bucket list for years-so this check mark is especially meaningful for me,” she noted in a recent interview. “Because I’m a big fan of Gospel Music, I’m as excited as the viewers will be to know who wins-even though I’m devasted there’s no category for ‘Best Christian Comedy DVD’-hint, hint. Can I say that?”

As the nationally acclaimed darling of laughs to a legion of fans, there’s little that Chonda Pierce can’t say.

Her highly-anticipated latest comedy DVD, “I’m Kind Of A Big Deal” releases on April 10. Formatted as a zany 90 minute “audio tabloid,” Chonda registers a solid 10 on the Rickter Scale of laughs with funnybone topics such as striking fear in the heart of the Taliban on her trip to Afghanistan to entertain the troops, the wonder working miracle of lard, her memoirs as a Hollywood star, and tips on how not to get caught dead in a hand basket. As always, her material laces fun through both the relevant and the ridiculous moments in life, expertly tying the laughter with a perky bow of Godly wisdom and pew friendly commentary.

Chonda’s fresh approach to ‘clean’ has birthed a unique franchise. Her DVDs are consistently strong sellers, both on tour and at retail. Four titles have already been certified gold, with three platinum certifications for sales of over 100,000 to her credit. With an increasingly busy booking event schedule at major churches across the U.S., Chonda is the author of a half dozen best selling books-including her latest-Laughing In The Dark (Simon & Schuster) and winner of the 2009 ‘Comedian of the Year’ Visionary Award. With her own CMT-TV comedy special This Ain’t Prettyville and regular guestings on XM and Sirius satellite radio, Chonda’s visibility has ushering in high-profile mainstream media stops such as The View, and a recent multi-project connectivity with Hollywood based movie productions.

Co-hosting with Chonda on the Dove Awards telecast to be filmed at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, will be fellow comedian David Mann-best known for creating the character of Leroy S. Brown, star of Tyler Perry’s popular Meet The Browns television series as well as a familair face in the Madea movie series. “David Mann is a wonderful Christian who has learned to navigate through mainstream waters and still maintain both his Christian faith and excellence in his comedy craft-I’m thrilled to share the stage with him,” notes Chonda.

Amidst the promise on the Dove Awards telecast of musical performances by both major and emerging new Christian music artists such as Natalie Grant, Mandisa, Jason Crabb, Lecrae, Kari Jobe, Danny Gokey, Donnie McClurkin, and the Isaacs-Chonda Pierce is a co-host with a mission: Her latest check-off on the all-important ‘bucket list’ of laughs.

The New Black Panthers puts Bounty on George Zimmerman

The death of slain 17 year old Trayvon Martin continues to be among the nations top stories. The case has sparked emotions and has focused the world on equality and racial profiling. Nation-wide demonstrations of solidarity have been common-place since the teen was shot for reportedly looking suspicious wearing a hoodie.

With the FBI and local courts opening investigations, the shooter George Zimmerman is free, and one organization is taking upon itself to get justice. What appears to be a negative turn down the wrong path is being spearheaded by the New Black Panthers.

During a recent protest in Sanford, Florida, the New Black Panthers announced that they are offering a $10,000 reward for the capture of George Zimmerman.

New Black Panther leader Mikhail Muhammad revealed the details of the bounty and announced that the group is seeking to mobilize thousands of black men who can assist in the capture of Zimmerman.

Muhammad also said that several black entertainers and athletes would be donating $1 million to the group’s effort by next week. However, Muhammad would not reveal names or documentation to prove that athletes and entertainers would assist with their plans to make a citizens arrest on Zimmerman.

Sanford Police are condemning the New Black Panthers’ bounty on Zimmerman and are warning the group to not pursue vigilante justice.

Are the New Black Panthers taking things too far by issuing a bounty on Zimmerman, or should they pursue justice because an inadequate police department failed to do so?

Jeff Foxworthy to Host ‘The American Bible Challenge’ on GSN

The Game Show Network, or GSN, has signed on stand-up comedian Jeff Foxworthy to host its new game show, “The American Bible Challenge,” which will test contestants’ knowledge of the Bible.

“I am excited to be hosting a show about the bestselling book of all time. It will be interesting to find out what people really know, and an opportunity to present the Bible in a fun and entertaining way,” said Foxworthy, who has also hosted Fox quiz show “Are You Smarter than A Fifth Grader?”

The one-hour game show is still in development, but its format will be straight-forward and recognizable to most viewers – contestants will be asked questions designed to acknowledge and celebrate the Bible’s continuing importance in contemporary life and culture. Contestants will be split into different teams, with each playing for “a worthy faith-based organization,” the GSN statement revealed.

“The American Bible Challenge” is being produced alongside RelativityREAL, and counts Nick Stuart and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks as consulting producers. The Odyssey Networks describes itself as the nation’s largest multi-faith coalition dedicated to producing and distributing media that creates understanding among people of different beliefs and perspectives and enriches spiritual life.

Foxworthy, who will also be a producer on the show, is described by GSN as one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country.

“Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature, a style that has been compared to Mark Twain’s,” the GSN statement elaborates.

According to Access Atlanta, the pilot for “The American Bible Challenge” will shoot in Los Angeles next week. GSN’s commitment to put up money for a pilot means that the odds are very good it will become a series, Access Atlanta suggests.

Foxworthy’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” show ran on Fox from 2007 to 2010, and GSN says it hopes to replicate a similar run of its Bible challenge program.

There have been times when the role was way on the other side, but either the character got delivered or the entire story line had a message to get people to see themselves and change. That’s when the greater good is being served and my faith and integrity are left intact!”

Brely will be seen in the upcoming TriStar feature film remake of the 1976 hit movie Sparkle.  Brely was cast in the role of “Tune Ann” alongside of an all-star cast:  Grammy® nominated recording artist Jordin Sparks (“American Idol” winner, Season 6), the late Multi-Grammy® Award winner Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale), Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher, Captain America: The First Avenger), Mike Epps (Jumping the Broom, Friday After Next), Carmen Ejogo (I, Alex Cross, Pride and Glory), Tika Sumpter (“The Game”, “Gossip Girl”), Omari Hardwick (The A-Team, For Colored Girls), Grammy® Award winner Cee-Lo Green (“The Voice”), and Tamela Mann (“Meet the Browns”, Diary of Mad Black WomanKingdom Come).

In addition to Sparkle, Brely will soon be seen in the David E. Talbert production of “Suddenly Single”. She has been noted for her roles in the romantic comedy Just Wright featuring Queen Latifah and Common, in Cookout 2 opposite Fazion Love and Charlie Murphy, in BET’s upcoming film “Note To Self”, and merged her vocal talents with her acting abilities in the gospel play “Torn Between The Two”. MY FAITH was the driving factor. I want to inspire and teach others to do the same.”

In between movies, Brely travels and speaks encouraging others to LIVE YOUR DREAMS which focuses on two points: LIVE BY YOUR GIFT: An empowering heart centered talk on getting to know yourself, coupled with an action plan for living your best life based on your gifts and talents; and DREAM BIG: A stimulating session targeted to younger audiences that encourages the new generation to know that theirDREAMS are REAL and ATTAINABLE.

Although Brely has developed a national platform in motivational speaking, her compassion for people and commitment to ministry dwells firm within her local community.
