Only questions come to mind when PATH learned of the artist formerly known as Tonex’s latest concert promotion. His press contact called it a comeback concert, and his publicist simply said he’s using his former moniker for the last time.
Now going by the name of B-Slade, we have very few details from the former Gospel singers camp.
Will B-Slade change his name back to Tonex? Will he perform Gospel music at this concert? Why is he using the name he once scorned on concert promotions again? And why did he recently perform with TyeTribbett on stage?
The last question may tip our hand. Recently B-Slade was seen performing with Tye Tribbett at Dorinda Clark-Coles’ annual Singers, Musicians, and Arts Conference. The two put on a dazzling performance that had fans of the former Gospel singer wishing he still recorded Gospel. You can check out that video below.
Tye Tribbett recenly took to Instagram stating “He is the BEST that has ever done it!! The greatest presenter of Gospel Music #PERIOD. I’m still trying to present it on the level he did years ago. His ministry opened the door for me. His production n creativity STILL inspires me to this day.”
When looking at the promotional flyer it’s obvious that Tonex wants to arouse suspicions. Putting a huge question mark next to the headline “WHERE’S TONEX?”
We’d caution fans from getting too excited. Over the years PATH publisher Kris Patrick has broke several stories surrounding the controversial star.
In 2008, Tonex announced on PATH that he was no longer a Gospel artist and that he was leaving his record label Verity for good. In 2011, Tonex told PATH exclusively that he is changing his name to B-Slade. It was that controversial interview that Tonex said he was gay, and that he believed that people were born homosexual. Stating that homosexuality is a genetic predisposition, and not a sin.
Then the madness came soon after. Erotic performances at gay night clubs were taped and aired on YouTube. And explicit lyrics flowed from his lips using his new B-Slade identity.
So the piercing question is, what artist are fans going to see at this concert? Some may throw caution to the wind just to see why B-Slade is performing as TONEX again.
We can only hope that Tonex’s message is more biblically sound than his witty rhetoric justifying his biblical interpretations over the years. Whatever his motive may be, don’t go expecting a Gospel concert. But suspicions are TONEX could be back! At least for a moment.
The concert takes place September 15th at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC. Showtime is at 1pm. Tickets purchased in advance are $35 and $45 the day of. You can purchase tickets here.

A man trying to find his artistic self after being condemned and rejected by the church community is ‘madness?’ No surprise there, because they said worse about Jesus and also put on Him on the cross.
