Award-winning Gospel recording artist Kurt Carr has become victim of a cyber hoax.
The Houston-based artist’s identity has been used by scam artist who have used fake social media pages, email addresses and a Google voice telephone numbers to contact fellow artists, preachers, promoters and fans in an effort to fraudulently receive money and have pretend conversations.
The elaborate online scam even included private petitions to fans and church leaders to solicit money for a non-existent African charity as well.
“It is unbelievable to think that someone would attempt to use my identity to contact people in an effort to scam them. I am working with authorities to ensure that the scam artist is uncovered and faces the necessary consequences,” said Carr, who has turned over the information to police investigators.
In the meantime, any interaction with singer-songwriter-producer outside of his official social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram via @TheKurtCarr are not legitimate and should be reported to social media platforms as fraud.
To those who know Carr personally, he has not changed his personal telephone number or email address and correspondence from any new contacts are fraudulent.
