Who Knew? Snoop Dogg’s Mother is Ordained Evangelist

Beverly Broadus-Green has been a lot of things to a lot of people.  A lifelong resident of Long Beach, California, she spent 42 years as a church choir director, she was the loving wife to Howard Green before he died in 2005 and before retirement she earned a living as a head chef. She said her specialty dish is cheese and macaroni (not the other way around), because that’s what her four sons and six grandchildren never seem to get enough of, especially her son Cordozar Calvin Broadus, better known as Snoop Dogg.

Entertainment website EurWeb reports that after years of serving so many people, Broadus-Green said Easter Sunday 2005 she accepted the calling to serve the Lord. Now she’s an ordained Evangelist who travels the country doing her part to build the Kingdom of God. Broadus-Green’s first passion is helping battered women.

“I’m blessed with the discernment to pick up on abusive relationships,” said Broadus-Green, adding that helping women and young girls is a way for her to help others avoid some of the issues she endured in her own past relationships. Broadus-Green said her home was the ‘open house’ of the neighborhood when her children were younger. So, she’s spent a lot of time trying to keep her sons – and other young men – out of gangs and away from drugs. So what does she think of Snoop’s music videos depicting a blunt-smoking rapper who degrades and parties with scantily-clad women?

“I told him I was embarrassed by it, and he told me his lyrics were not about me or all women, but certain women, ‘and they know who they are,’ he told her.

That’s why her latest project, YouthBloc.com, has such great meaning for her. YouthBloc.com is a non-profit 501-c3 designed to teach youth how to start successful businesses, solve problems and apply for business loans. That means understanding the importance of having good credit and good communication skills. Broadus-Green said it’s not enough to tell youth just to say no to drugs and gangs, “they have to have something to say ‘yes’ to and focus on,” she said. Broadus-Green started YouthBloc.com with her business partner and confidant, Marvin Fredlaw. Fredlaw, who is a self-employed computer programmer, said YouthBloc.com is a much needed program in urban areas because public schools do little to nothing to teach students how to become entrepreneurs.

Gospel Crooner Gary Samuels Tapped For TV Performances

Life has given Gary Samuels some tough pills to swallow. From childhood abuse, a cancer diagnosis, paralysis, partial blindness and the death of a child, he’s had more than his share. But through it all, God was there and healed him from it all. His experiences have been the impetus for his latest release, Grace of God. The EP contains the BDS-charting, lead single, “Grace of God”, an inspiring song about the Lord’s mercy. Now, Samuels will be performing the song (and others) at two appearances in Atlanta this week.

The Harlem native will be traveling to the Peach State on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 to perform live on ATLANTA LIVE. The program will air live on the 6th at 7PM EST. Encore presentations air weekday mornings from 7 – 9 AM EST. In addition, one hour of ATLANTA LIVE is seen nationwide on NRB Network seen on DirecTV every weekday morning at 8AM EST. Fans of the artist can also see Samuels perform live by logging on to www.watc.tv on Wednesday evening. While in Atlanta, Samuels will also be performing on Babbie’s House, the talk show of famed Christian artist Babbie Mason. Samuels will perform two songs and sit down to talk with Mason about his songs and his life. A future air date will be announced.

One of fifteen children, Gary Samuels was surrounded by music with a father who was a Jazz pianist, and a mother who was a pianist and singer. After honing his chops at church, he sung for countless choirs including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Choir and The United Negro College Fund Choir. It wasn’t until his cancer diagnosis in 1984 when his calling in Gospel Music was solidified. After a miraculous healing, he knew that God still had His hand on him. Now with the release of his new single, he has an opportunity to tell the world about the favor of God on his life. “‘Grace of God’ is my testimony,” says Samuels. “Satan not only wanted my life, but he wanted my soul. But God said, ‘not so’.”

Joel Osteen Comments on ‘Mary, Mother of Christ’ Film & Related Criminal Case

Houston megachurch Pastor Joel Osteen has spoken out on the highly publicized criminal extortion case surrounding the upcoming “Mary, Mother of Christ” film, described by some as a prequel to Mel Gibson’s 2004 “The Passion of the Christ.”

Osteen signed on with Aloe Entertainment to executive produce “Mary, Mother of Christ,” but the Lakewood Church pastor’s first foray into film production has been marred with controversy involving Mexican drug traffickers and money launderers.

“We knew nothing about it,” the megachurch pastor told The Denver Post on Thursday regarding claims that profits from the film’s script had been extorted from a Mexican businessman by money launderers and drug traffickers.

Osteen was in Denver signing copies of his bestselling book Every Day A Friday at a local bookstore.

“We didn’t know about any of this,” he said. “The lady who owned the script when we got involved didn’t know about it.”

In 2006, the script for “Mary, Mother of Christ” was obtained by Mexican businessmen Arturo Madrigal and Mauricio Sanchez Garza and resold to Aloe Entertainment for nearly a million dollars with a clause for an additional 15 percent of the total profits of the film.

However, prosecutors say that Sanchez, along with business partner Jorge Vazquez Sanchez, extorted Madrigal out of his share of the profits from the sale of the script by threatening and kidnapping his brother.

In May, Vazquez reportedly admitted to his involvement in the extortion plot and entered a plea deal agreeing to hand over his 10 percent of future profits for the film to the federal government, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“Mary, Mother of Christ” is based on a script written by Barbra Nicolosi and Benedict Fitzgerald, who co-wrote “The Passion of the Christ.” The film, expected to be released next year, retraces the life of Mary from her youth to her struggles as a young mother caring for her child, Jesus. The film, starring Odeya Rush as the young virgin, reportedly looks at Mary’s life at ages 8, 15, 19 and 27.

John Edwards After Mistrial Declared: ‘No One Else Responsible for My Sins’

The case involving the affair between former Democratic Senator John Edwards and his mistress, Rielle Hunter, may be far from over. On Thursday the trial’s presiding judge declared a mistrial after the jury informed the court that they were deadlocked on five counts but found him not guilty on one count.

Judge Catherine Eagles handed down her ruling after the jury foreman sent word to her that the group had reached a unanimous verdict on a single count against the one-time presidential candidate. But shortly after receiving instructions from the bench to continue discussions on the remaining five counts, the jurors said any further deliberations would be useless.

The one count that Edwards was cleared of involved the charge that he accepted and received illegal campaign contributions in 2008 from Rachel “Bunny” Mellon.

Edwards, who was also Sen. John Kerry’s vice presidential running mate in 2004, had an affair with Hunter, who he fathered an out-of-wedlock child with in 2009. In an effort to cover up the relationship, Edwards’ assistant, Andrew Young, and his wife, Cheryl, were given the task of taking care of Hunter and her unborn child. At one time Young admitted he was the father of the child.

After the mistrial was announced, Edwards addressed reporters outside of the Greensboro, N.C. courthouse and made another effort to renounce his actions while saying he did nothing illegal.

“I did an awful, awful lot that was wrong. There is no one else responsible for my sins,” said Edwards. He also expressed his appreciation to his family for standing by him, “including my precious Quinn,” who is the daughter he fathered with Hunter.

The government’s case centered around the fact that two wealthy benefactors, Mellon and the late Fred Baron, provided nearly $1 million dollars toward taking care of Hunter in an effort to cover up the extramarital affair. The prosecution claimed the money amounted to illegal campaign contributions.

One of the key issues that the government failed to prove was that Edwards had knowledge of the funds and their use. Neither Edwards nor Hunter took the stand during the trial.

However, defense attorneys admitted that Edwards lied to his late wife and family about the relationship, but did not violate federal campaign election laws.

A mistrial gives the government another opportunity to retry Edwards on the five counts where the jury could not reach a verdict. He cannot be retried on the one count where he was found not guilty.

Judge Eagles did not set a date for retrial, only saying she could not find an availablity on her calendar until September or later.

Earnest Pugh Latest Radio Single “For My Good” Featuring Beverly Crawford Hits Billboard Top 30

Things are still smoking over at Black Smoke Music where Kerry Douglas’ Houston-based company is currently enjoying a Top Ten gospel radio smash with Zacardi Cortez’ “One More Time” and Earnest Pugh’s spine-tingling “I Need Your Glory” that currently sits atop the Radio & Records Gospel Recurrent chart. Pugh is ready to hit the top again with his new soul, stirring track, “For My Good”, which features Beverly Crawford.

The third single from Pugh’s Stellar Award nominated CD, “Earnestly Yours”, and the ballad was recorded in the sophisticated chorale style of the late gospel conductor, Thomas Whitfield, who was known as the Maestro. “I wrote this song after going through some unmanageable disappointments in my life and career with church folk,” Pugh adds. “I felt betrayed, rejected, and hated by people I thought really loved and cared for me. One day God allowed me to step back and look at the situation and see it from His perspective, which was that of a victor and not a victim. He assured me that the situation would work together for my good. I knew Beverly Crawford could relate to my pain and would be the perfect artist to help me deliver the song.” Executive Producer Kerry Douglas is excited about the song’s progress and says, “I always knew this single would reach deep into the hearts of people because Pugh wrote it while enduring one of his greatest storms in life but he lets the people know that at the end of the day all things work for good.”

In 2010, Billboard magazine named Pugh the #4 gospel radio airplay artist of the year and his recent radio single, “I Need Your Glory,” spent 3 months at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart. The “Earnestly Yours” CD debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and was the first gospel project within the eOne Distribution system to debut at #1. A Memphis native, Pugh released his first solo CD in 2006 and showed off his five-octave vocals on the radio hit, “Wrapped Up, Tied Up, Tangled Up.” After years of making respectable forays into gospel, Pugh finally hit it big in 2009 with his #1 smash “Rain On Us”.
