Saturday Night Live Slammed with Complaints Following Blasphemous ‘DJesus Uncrossed’ Skit
A skit recently featured on the popular late night comedy show Saturday Night Live that portrays Jesus taking vengeance in a bloody rampage against His enemies has generated uproar across the country from those who find the dramatization to be blasphemous. Continue reading
Ministry Etiquette 101: “Association Can Evolve to Assimilation”
Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed (Empowered to prosper) is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law (Word) of the Lord; and in his law (Word) does he meditate day and night.“
Counsel is advice, direction, and guidance i.e. wisdom, so to receive counsel from the ungodly is to walk (be directed in the path; make progress from one point to another) according to his ways/heart. That’s why counsel is so important, throughout Israel’s history we can read where counsel either delivered them or defeated them. Continue reading
Present and Accounted For… By: Calvin Walker
I love the fact that God often uses my job situations to speak to me. This note will be short. However, I hope that it will bless someone.
For about four years, I worked in a contact center environment. I did not have non stop calls coming into any queue. If someone needed to call us, they called us. If we weren’t there to pick up the call, they left us a voicemail. Our job was not to take phone calls. We were in position to handle processing. So, when it came to lunch, we were able to decided when we wanted to go. They let us know that we could leave as early as 11 AM but had to be back by 2 PM. Continue reading
Ministry Etiquette 101 By: Lynette Harrison
“Let It Go” God spoke to me asking me why was I upset and trying to get in touch with people who have long since been removed from my life? He said, to stop trying to give them access, they are not in your life because they have no place. There is no place for them where you are nor where you’re going.
He further stated, that everyone presently in my life is supposed to be there…they have a purpose for being there and that he has not allowed some past friends to be in my life because simply they aren’t connected to my destiny and to let it go. Continue reading
President Obama Re-Elected for Second Term – America’s Decision Leaves Both Candidates Expressing the Role of Faith in the Coming Months
President Obama was re-elected for a second term last night, and an exuberant base of supporters dreamed of progress in the coming four years.
Obama’s acceptance speech, and Romney’s concession speech had under-tones of faith and hope as they expressed a willingness to work with each other in Obama’s second term.
As Mitt Romney delayed conceding the victory too long for some, he took the stage in defeat graciously. “This is a time of great challenges for America, and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.” Continue reading
Rapper THE GAME Portrays JESUS as Gang Member on Album Cover
The cover art for rap artist Jayceon “Game” Taylor’s upcoming album is stirring up controversy because it portrays Jesus Christ as a gang member.
The artwork for the upcoming “Jesus Piece” album shows a stained-glass image of Jesus Christ, who is wearing a gaudy gold chain and a red bandana – often associated with the Bloods street gang. The depicted Jesus has a teardrop tattoo on his face – often a sign that the person wearing this tear drop has committed a murder. The album’s title is written as “Je5us Piece,” with the number five also being a symbol of the Bloods, and there are marijuana leaves on both sides of Jesus’s likeness. Continue reading
My Letter to Fear A Blog By: Franyora Clophus
Dear Fear,Just thought I would write you this letter to let you know exactly how I feel about our former relationship.
First, let me start off by thanking you for always popping up during the times in my life when I was standing within the threshold of greatness. Your presence served as confirmation that I needed to keep moving forward. Also, thank you for all the negative comments you whispered into my mind, if it weren’t for them, I would not have realized how mentally strong and resilient I am. You are such a liar – you told me I couldn’t when I really could. You told me I wasn’t good enough when I was just right, and you even told me that it wouldn’t work when all I had to do was put forth the effort to work it! Yes, some of your words may literally have caused me physical pain in the depths of my abdomen, and even caused me to cry at times, but thank God that even though you gave me pause, you could never completely stop me. The Uncomfortable Conversation A Blog by Franyora Clophus
Today, I asked a 4 year old if she had a good day at school. She paused, looked up at me and said, “No I didn’t.” Before I could ask her to share with me what happened, she paused again, and said, “I don’t want to tell you about it, because it’s really bad.” Then she turned and ran away. I, of course, paused, laughed and walked away. As I got into my vehicle, I began to ponder over what this little child had just told me. Even at such a young age she has already conditioned herself to avoid ‘difficult conversations’ that would make her feel uncomfortable. I often premise before sharing certain feelings and information with others that, “I need to have an uncomfortable conversation with you.” Then I began my rant of information, feelings, frustrations or data that may not be considered ideal for him or her to hear. Fear & Procrastination – the Mother and Father of Defeat By Franyora Clophus
I was elated to speak with the founder of Path Magazine and find out that he thought I had the potential to become a blogger on his website. As I put the finishing touches wrapping my sisters huge box of Paula Dene pots I got for her for Christmas (on sale I might add), Kris and my conversation came to a close. Continue reading
